Caledon East Abbeyfield House

The Building Permit has been issued by the Town, tenders were let and a builder chosen, and financing is in place. We are ready to go.

The Region of Peel, our financial partner in the project, is finalizing the many contracts, leases and agreements required before we can begin to dig. Our financing arrangements require that we begin construction before the end of September, 2009. We are doing everything we can to meet that deadline.

We are using this time to ensure that the building design meets the needs of the elderly and conforms to all planning guidelines, construction standards and the rules established by the various regulatory bodies under which our project falls.

The house, the first of its kind for assisted retirement living in Caledon, will be an environmentally sensitive, barrier free building, surrounded by gardens. It will provide generous sized ensuite rooms for 12 residents, and have a live-in cook / housekeeper who will also facilitate activities around the house. The house has generous communal dining, social and activity areas.

Costs will be shared equally by the residents. As a not-for-profit project, all rental income will be channeled to operating costs.
